Natural Selection In Action

 NATURAL SELECTION IN ACTION

Zebra Finch
An example of natural selection is seen in the increase in resistant strains of disease causing microorganisms. When antibiotics were first introduced they were seen as something that could fix bacterial disease but then they didn't realize that any bacterium with that inherited resistance will survive. Those that survive will reproduce and pass the drug resistance on to the next one which eventually will not be resistant to any medications/ antibiotics. There are certain ways natural can occur it cant just occur in everything .One example is that a trait must have inherited if natural selection is to have any effect upon it, such as if a characteristic isn't inherited then it will not be passed on to offspring. a good example for such is as seen in Finches and moths with finches their beak sizes are hereditary traits and a color of moth. Another example of when natural selection can occur is when population variation in inherited characteristics occurs. Though this can only work if variation already exists.Thirdly fitness is a relative measure that changes along with the environment changing around it. Fitness is defined as a successful reproduction which is different.Lastly natural selection can only act on traits which affect reproduction. So if a characteristic is influenced later on in life after organisms have reproduced then that outcome is that natural selection can not influence it on. Although if it occurs before you reproduce then natural selection is able to act on it and not let the trait to be passed on.

Various types of moths.
